Here, you will see the branding campaign we have run for KryptoKiosk™. An Australian start-up that deals with manufacturing private booths for trading cryptocurrencies and educating people for this very new innovative market.

Main Softwares:

Blender 3D, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere.

All the 3D assets were created using Blender 3D.

In some cases, we have used the experimental version 2.8 of Blender that allowed us to quickly render prototypes for other potential clients having all the reflections and stuff working nicely with its new real-time rendering engine (EEVEE).

The result was so convenient that we switched from Cycles to EEVEE in order to render the image sequences for the GIF creation process. That was significantly important for reduction of the pipeline working time. The feedback is real-time and the OpenGL render is nearly timeless.

We have projected the 3D prototypes on top of real photos and rendered in Cycles. Then some composition in Photoshop for finalization.

The GIFs were made using Photoshop after got the image sequences from Blender 2.8 EEVEE. This experiment helped us to quickly try different prototypes and to attract potential investors as well by rendering their own version of the booth.

Another concept we have explored: A mobile unit with an ATM inside. This way KryptoKiosk™ can go pretty much everywhere providing services and educate people.

For this part, we've used EEVEE to render the image sequences in Blender.

Then, Photoshop was used to put the sequence in place and create the output GIF file. Voilá!

 

This is a transparent background GIF so it can match any pre-existing background for the webpage.

1404 × 993 Render in 4 seconds! The result is not 100% physically correct as Cycles, but its good enough for the concept and the render timer is not an issue anymore.

Screenshot of Blender's interface in action showing how we've approached the task. Firstly we match the perspective of the photo using Blam Addon. Then we build roughly the surface environment. After that, we can project the photo on the mesh so it can serve as a reflection pass for believability once the booth is positioned in place. The environment mesh serves as a shadow catcher as well.

Using EEVEE for rendering the image sequence made it easy to showcase the product to other potential investors and clients:

Here you see the final shot and the original shot with the green screen applied to the machine screen. Working this way we were able to record the interactions much before we have start planning the software screen design. We just put some pencil marks on the green screen wich served Paul as guidelines. We've tryed every possible interaction and Paul did a good job extrapolating the guideline marks and introduced even sliding gestures! Trust me, check the video below.

A little bit of me and Paul having some fun  in the studio. After record the built-in screens functionallities I thougt it would worth have a try green screening it, so we eventually end up using the footage for our own software prototyping in the future.

 

 

At this pont, we've already spent the budget with lights rental. Why not trying some chroma key? Wouldn't hurt and a piece of rough green paper doesn't cost that much anyway. I have used my canon t4i manually white balenced  and the day was saved. We endup using this footage in the near future and it worked like a charm.

We have brought all the elements from the illustrator file as layers meaning we're ready to animate them. Here you see After Effects playing an interaction action animation. Position, Scale, and Opacity were used to create the illusion fading in and fade out of the coin scrolling action.

Prototyping the design of the screens using Illustrator was really effective to get high quality vectorized information and experimentation were achievable as well. I like to quickly try others ideas and see how we react of it. The decision making is constantly changing so it is better to be open for it. Change, let it go and move forward.

Interactive software prototyping use case:

Prototyping cheaply targetting decent results is fundamental to get investor's attention and not end up running out of money at the same time. You never know what can happen so it's better to be prepared to lose.

 

This section I take you through our process of prototyping a crypto teller machine software screens interactions. Very effective to get new insights or enough confidence to keep moving on the project.
